Visual Arts 2022 |
Children are spontaneous creators. The Visual Arts program gives students the opportunity to learn about and experiment with different processes, skills, techniques, materials and technologies to create two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. Providing meaningful art experiences, that allow students to make something from nothing, helps foster a sense of achievement and their confidence.
Visual Art activities develop sense of self by enabling students to explore aspects of their lives the same way imaginative play does. Students are able to examine their own work and the work of others. They develop communication skills, their senses, perceptions, feelings, values and knowledge of the world through art. They come to understand the attitudes and values of others and the community when critically responding to a variety of art forms. Visual Arts is an important area in which students are provided with a powerful means to express and communicate their life experiences and creative ideas. The program allows for enjoyable experiences that provide opportunity for self-expression, imagination and cultural appreciation. Students will learn how art is used in society as a way of human communication and expression. They learn the skills, understandings and values needed to critically reflect on the artistic world and are able to understand how artistic works can inform, teach, persuade and provoke thought. Originality and creativity is a key focus of the arts program and students should be free to take risks and try out their own ideas. Learning in Visual Arts develops the students’ independence, imagination, problem solving skills and an appreciation of art. Michelle Barr Educator - Visual Arts |
